David Freeland

SLCTA/CU Executive Board member David Freeland traveled to Tallahassee and was given the opportunity to testify before the Senate K-12 Education Appropriations Sub-Committee. Freeland, math coach at Ft. Pierce Central High School, outlined the scope of testing facing Florida students in the next few months. He explained the disruption to classes not testing, the massive infrastructure juggling teachers and students must endure in order for everyone to test (for as many as 10 tests per student at high schools) and the limits of technology at even the newest schools. “Best-case schools such as mine are struggling with the demands of mandated assessments and older schools lacking the technology infrastructure are drowning,” he said.
